From “Why do I keep repeating old patterns?” to “I can create new ones.”
How to Use Brain Science to Help Others Overcome Setbacks, Build Adaptability, and Believe in Their Capacity to Change

Nine short modules on explaining setbacks, discomfort and change the way the brain actually processes them, so people keep going, and stay interested in the tools and ideas you offer.
No clichés.
No "just think positive."
Have you ever worked with someone who understands exactly what they need to do...
But keeps returning to the same familiar patterns?
Or someone who starts something with enthusiasm, encounters a setback, and begins questioning whether they're capable of succeeding?
One of the most useful things neuroscience gives us is a way to understand what's happening beneath those moments.
Our brains use past experiences to help predict what comes next.
And those predictions influence what we notice, how we interpret challenges, and what we believe is possible.
When we understand the science of adaptability, we can help people see setbacks through a different lens.
A difficult experience can become information their brain can use to update its expectations and strategies.
This is one of the reasons I created The Adaptive Brain.
To give coaches, educators, practitioners, and leaders a deeper understanding of the neuroscience of mindset, setbacks, and change.
So you can help people navigate the moments when growth feels difficult.

"I just completed the Adaptive Brain and it was fantastic.
I am a self-leadership coach and I will be integrating all of this in my own life
and teaching it as well, to my clients and other leaders.
It got the attention of the company that certified me as an executive coach too (JMG).
Thanks for offering these amazing courses at an affordable rate.
It has already made a difference in how I podcast and coach.
My clients are experiencing the benefits too."
-Rachel Tamilio, Certified Executive Coach · John Mattone Global (JMG)
What if setbacks opened new doors?
Think about the people you work with.
The person who has stopped trying because they've experienced too many disappointments.
The student who believes they're simply not good at something.
The client who interprets a difficult moment as evidence that they haven't made progress.
What might become possible if they understood their brains differently?
If they could recognize the biological processes involved in learning, adapting, and updating old patterns?
If they could begin seeing themselves as people whose capacities are still developing?
These are some of the possibilities I want more helping professionals to understand.
Because when we change how people interpret their experiences, we may also change what they're willing to try next.
Inside The Adaptive Brain: The Science of Setbacks, Mindset & Change, we explore the science beneath these experiences and how to bring that understanding into your work.
Every awkwardness, unfamiliarity, rejection, failure is a doorway... the brain's invitation to become something it hasn't been yet.
Inside the course, you'll learn:
- How early words and experiences become the inner voice that predicts what's possible for us... and how that voice can be updated.
- How the brain writes the story of who we are, and how new experiences rewrite it at any age.
- Why the brain's motivation systems go quiet after repeated setbacks, and what re-engages them.
- How the meaning we give our stress signals shapes performance, connection, and recovery.
- The biology behind hope: why understanding these systems gives people back their agency.
When you understand - and then have words and a framework to TEACH - the science behind mindset, you're no longer handing people motivational slogans.
You're giving them the mechanism.
The reason.
The biology.
Use the biology of mindset to help clients optimize their brains... without getting dismissed as just ‘positive thinking’
"Your explanations of the brain, mindset, and personal growth have taught me so much. They've helped me understand not only how the brain works, but also how real change is possible.
Learning about setbacks, mindset and how brains change has genuinely changed the way I think about learning and life. I feel much more confident than before."
This is what happens when people understand the biology behind their experience.
They expand beyond asking, "What's wrong with me?" and start exploring "How do I help my brain learn from this?"
Personal Growth and Nervous System Tools Matter.
But...
If someone believes, "I'm just an anxious person,"
every regulation strategy has to push against that prediction.
If they believe effort means they lack ability,
they might give up on the very practice that would have changed their brain.
If they see stress as proof they're failing,
they'll miss that it may simply be their nervous system adapting to something new.
That's why mindset sits upstream.
It influences whether people stay with the process long enough for the process to work.
The Adaptive Brain framework answers:
How do I help people believe they're capable of becoming someone who can use those regulation skills consistently?
"This material gave me a deeper and wider version of how the brain works/develops and how that impacts clients' behavior. I feel more equipped to understand their actions + attitudes and how to work with them."

Hello! I'm Stef.
Nearly Two Decades of Translating Brain Science.
On a mission to make sure the people doing the most important work don't get dismissed.
Every profession that changes lives shares one thing in common: it helps people update what they believe is possible for themselves.
I've spent nearly two decades trying to understand how that happens.
I've translated neuroscience for some of the world's most analytical audiences—including MIT, Google, Stanford, the FBI, Northwestern University, and UCSD School of Medicine.
I've conducted brain scanning research at NYU. I've measured brainwaves, heart rate variability, and other physiological markers as people moved through profound moments of learning, healing, and transformation.

I haven't just 'studied' neuroscience...
I've watched transformation happen from the inside out.
For years, I've had the rare opportunity to watch human transformation from two perspectives at once:
listening to people's stories, observing how their stories and beliefs affect their lives...
while simultaneously measuring what their brains and bodies were doing in real time.

Across classrooms, clinics, retreat centers, leadership programs, and research settings, I kept seeing the same pattern.
People transform when they understand themselves differently.
When they can see why fear exists, why the brain resists change, why old patterns persist, and why growth is biologically possible, something shifts.

That's why I'm so passionate about bringing neuroscience into the hands of coaches, educators, leaders, and helping professionals.
Because there's a real difference between a professional who can inspire change and one who can explain the mechanisms of how to orchestrate it on purpose.

Become the professional people seek out because your work changes people.
Learn the neuroscience behind helping others believe in themselves, embrace challenge, and unlock their potential—so your impact, reputation, and opportunities naturally grow.
Here's what some people are saying...

i've got some questions...
My work isn't clinical or science-based — will this still help me?
Absolutely. This course isn't about turning you into a neuroscientist—it's about helping you understand the biology behind human transformation so you can explain change in ways people trust, remember, and act on.
Whether you coach, teach, lead, mentor, or work in healthcare, you'll leave with a framework you can use immediately.
I've already learned about Growth Mindset. Is this different?
Very.
Most Growth Mindset training stops at "fixed vs. growth" and encourages people to embrace failure.
This course goes underneath those ideas into the neuroscience of why the brain predicts, resists, learns, adapts, and changes. You'll leave with a far more practical framework for helping people update what they believe is possible for themselves.
Will this actually make me better at what I do?
That's exactly why I created it. The goal isn't simply to teach neuroscience. It's to help you become more effective at creating the kinds of breakthroughs people remember.
When you understand the mechanisms of change, your coaching, teaching, workshops, conversations, and leadership become more precise, credible, transformational.
How quickly can I start using this?
Immediately.
The lessons are intentionally short (5–10 minutes each) and designed to give you ideas, language, and frameworks you can begin applying in your very next coaching session, classroom, workshop, meeting, or conversation.
Is this live or do I get instant access?
You'll receive immediate lifetime access to all nine micro-modules, the full 90-minute masterclass, and every bonus resource, so you can learn at your own pace and return whenever you need a refresher.
How is this different from another coaching certification or professional development course?"
A lot of professional development teaches what to say or what to do. This course helps you understand why people change.
Once you understand the neuroscience behind mindset, resilience, failure, and adaptation, you can apply those principles across every conversation, workshop, classroom, coaching session.
