“When we say that we are aware of a certain piece of information, what we mean is just this: the information has entered into a specific storage area that makes it available to the rest of the brain" ”
-Stanislas Dehaene, Consciousness and the brain
When we bring awareness to our internal state, behaviors and breath, we bring those aspects of ourselves onto our conscious workspace. This workspace is where we have the ability to improve our mastery and control, where we activate neural circuits that make us better humans. We begin to access the precise features of the human brain that move us to adapt, evolve, improve and innovate.
One way we can do this by becoming aware of our breath. Learn more about this in this video:
Other ways we can do this is by learning about how others have healed, found purpose and meaning and who have optimized their life in some way. When we combine this with the biological mechanics of how we do this -we get to keep better track of what works and what doesn't. This is the journey of becoming more conscious.
To become more conscious is to become more human.
To become more conscious means we have a better chance of healing from our past and not repeating unwanted experiences. It increases the number of choice points, degrees of freedom within which we can create our realities.
There is SCIENCE to becoming conscious.
Science does not reduce the mystery or compassion of the journey... in fact, if anything, it opens and expands our awareness and our perspectives to see more fully and experience life on a richer level.
I will be integrating this into Season 4 of the Mindset Neuroscience Podcast, where we will explore Purpose, Healing, Meaning, Transcendence and Conscious Access.
